10 www. wakefield. ac. uk Case Study W E Rawsons, the leading manufacturers and suppliers of fibre based products which are distributed world wide decided to put all LGV drivers on a training programme which included SAFED and NVQ Driving Goods Vehicles. Barry Crosswaite, Transport and Distribution Manager, commented: " I was most impressed with the results of both SAFED and the NVQ programmes. All drivers will now receive an annual refresher as part of their continual development. I will also be looking at further NVQ's. SAFED and NVQ's go together from a company point of view. They make the drivers better, happier, and less stressed". Wakefield College delivers many courses that are an essential requisite for working in a particular field or job. " The NVQ has got us thinking about how the customers feel and has given us an insight into how we can help them. " Our assessor is fabulous- if I've ever struggled, my assessor is always on the end of a phone or an e- mail to give advice and is so supportive." Louise Coldwell, Customer Services Manager, added: " Wakefield College actually work with our staff on their units and it stretches them and makes them learn new skills which benefits us as a team and as a business - no time is lost from having staff away from work. It's quality based, fresh approach, and is focused around our needs, against other training providers who simply come in and rubber stamp things which doesn't help us as a business. " The team has improved enormously as we have evolved, and this has been with the help of the training from Wakefield College. The training and learning has helped us to see things from our customers point of view." 11 Course Information: 01924 789111 General Information: 01924 789789 Distance/ Online Learning Look out for this coloured flag in the course listings to find Distance/ Online Learning If you take a distance/ online learning course you don't have to give up your day job! " My learning experience is proving very flexible and interesting. The course is helping me to gain a good knowledge of IT and is continually enhancing the development of my computer skills. I would recommend the course to anyone; the qualifications are great and are recognised by many organisations. The opportunity for flexible learning is great and the response from my tutors is excellent." In the Gambia, education is only compulsory between the ages of 8 and 11 and many children and adults are unable to read or write. When he is fully qualified and has gained the ECDL Advanced qualification, he would like to share his knowledge with his colleagues and he hopes to become an IT tutor in the Gambia. Case Study: Kevin Howarth NVQ 4 Certificate in Management " I completed the NVQ 4 Certificate in Management in 2009 at Wakefield College's Thornes Park Campus. Although the location of the College was a deciding factor, I had studied here years earlier when I first left school and enjoyed success. " The course was difficult yet achievable once I convinced myself to knuckle down and get on with it; you have to give it the time that it deserves and not expect not to have to put any effort in. " The course was distance learning so I only came to Wakefield College for tutorials, the environment was good and I found that every member of staff that I came into contact with was helpful and professional at all times. " I would encourage anyone to take up further education at Wakefield College as I find the environment and staff warm and friendly whilst being patient, professional and conducive to learning. To people who are against furthering their education I would say reconsider and do something now or risk being left behind by others." |
