" My learning experience is proving very flexible and interesting. The course is helping me to gain a good knowledge of IT and is continually enhancing the development of my computer skills. I would recommend the course to anyone; the qualifications are great and are recognised by many organisations. The opportunity for flexible learning is great and the response from my tutors is excellent." In the Gambia, education is only compulsory between the ages of 8 and 11 and many children and adults are unable to read or write. When he is fully qualified and has gained the ECDL Advanced qualification, he would like to share his knowledge with his colleagues and he hopes to become an IT tutor in the Gambia. Case Study: Kevin Howarth NVQ 4 Certificate in Management " I completed the NVQ 4 Certificate in Management in 2009 at Wakefield College's Thornes Park Campus. Although the location of the College was a deciding factor, I had studied here years earlier when I first left school and enjoyed success. " The course was difficult yet achievable once I convinced myself to knuckle down and get on with it; you have to give it the time that it deserves and not expect not to have to put any effort in. " The course was distance learning so I only came to Wakefield College for tutorials, the environment was good and I found that every member of staff that I came into contact with was helpful and professional at all times. " I would encourage anyone to take up further education at Wakefield College as I find the environment and staff warm and friendly whilst being patient, professional and conducive to learning. To people who are against furthering their education I would say reconsider and do something now or risk being left behind by others." 12 www. wakefield. ac. uk Apprenticeships & e2e Courses Apprenticeships are for those aged 16 - 24 who have left full time education or are already in employment.
