7 Course Information: 01924 789111 General Information: 01924 789789 Apprenticeships & e2e e2e - Entry to Employment If you are 16 - 18, not working, not at school, college or on a training programme, then e2e could be for you. e2e is all about you and gives you the opportunity to develop work related skills and experience. You will receive support to move on to an Apprenticeship, a job with training, or a college course. You can develop skills in Business Administration, Retail, Customer Service, IT, Warehousing and Distribution, Manufacturing, Motor Vehicle, Construction, Childcare and Care, Hair and Beauty as well as the opportunity to prepare for life in the armed forces. Contact the e2e office on 01924 789403. Wakefield College e2e has a dedicated Transition Mentor, whose primary role is to support young people into training and employment, and to build new partnerships between Wakefield College e2e and local employers. There are many different placements available in a variety of industries. To find out more about the programme, or if you are an employer, about how you could offer a young person a work experience placement, please phone 01924 789475. Apprentice Programmes include: Accounts, Business & Administration, Brickwork, Carpentry & Joinery, Customer Service, Dental Nursing, Engineering, Electrical Installation, Hairdressing, Hospitality & Catering, Logistics, Motor Vehicle, Plumbing and Warehousing. Case Study: Thomas Clayton Apprentice Engineer " I left school with no GCSEs and did a Diploma in Engineering. I'd heard about apprenticeships from my employer when I did work experience, so after I finished my Diploma I approached them about getting a job. I got an interview, and employment as an apprentice. " I've gained experience and confidence and been given more responsibility at work - now I know how to do more jobs, I'm given harder jobs to do. My employer has been very supportive and gets involved in what I need to do. I got a pay rise and a ' well done' letter after I passed my first year. " The tutors are supportive and helpful, you can have a laugh with them most of the time. There are still time limits on work that needs to be done but I would say to anyone, stick it out and work hard - but enjoy it at the same time. " I intend to go on to do an HNC, then I'm looking forward to finishing in 3- 4 years time, when I will get more money and a chance to progress within the company." Apprenticeships Apprenticeships are nationally designed training programmes for anyone aged 16 or above who has left full- time education or is already in employment. They offer young people the opportunity to learn on the job with an employer, building up knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money at the same time. They were developed in response to business needs and now cover a wide range of skill areas across a range of environments, from offices to workshops. Through the Apprenticeship framework you would receive ' on- the- job training' provided by an employer, as well as ' off-the- job training' provided by the College. Because Apprentices are in full- time employment they receive a guaranteed basic wage. A typical average is £ 95 - £ 130 per week, although it does vary depending on the size of employer and the skills area in which you are training. Normal entry to Apprenticeship is via GCSEs grades A* to D with, ideally, English and Maths being two of those subjects. There is also a skills assessment to ensure that the apprentice's literacy and numeracy abilities are at the correct level. Alternatively you may enter through the Entry to Employment route. Contact the College's Work Based Learning Unit on 01924 789469. Case Study: Tom Hall A very determined Joinery Apprentice Tom was referred to e2e by the Apprenticeship Unit in 2007 in order to increase his basic skills so that he could pursue his chosen apprenticeship programme. He developed his personal interactive skills, built his confidence and also achieved Key Skills in both Application of Number and Communication at Level 1. Tom found an employer who was willing to mentor and train him in site carpentry and joinery, which opened the apprenticeship doors for him to achieve his NVQ Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery, whilst also gaining valuable experience in the workplace. Tom has developed a natural flair and creativity. He was due to complete his qualification in June 2009, but through his determination, motivation and enthusiasm he achieved his full apprenticeship framework much earlier - in February 2009.
