RECIPIENT OF THE MOORE CONCRETE AWARD 2009 Aaron Cunningham Aaron joined the BTEC National Diploma Business course in September 2007 after having just achieved a Distinction in the First Diploma Business course at this College the previous year. He worked very hard to achieve a Distinction in the First Diploma and he continued his A Level studies with the same enthusiasm, determination and success. Aaron's maturity and focus ensured that he consistently met assignment deadlines and achieved the higher level Distinction grades in 15 of the 18 units studied. Aaron achieved 3 overall " Distinction" grades in his diploma which is equivalent to 3 A grades at A Level. No-one deserves it more, he has worked solidly and keenly over the past few years to reach this end goal and he is now at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown studying for a BSc in Business Studies. RECIPIENT OF THE DR STEVENSON CUP 2009 Grace O'Neill Grace O'Neill came to the NRC Coleraine in September 2007 from Dunluce High School having attained eight GCSE's to commence studying for a BTEC National Diploma in Business Studies. Grace was a model student from the outset and attended her course regularly and punctually always showing a high degree of commitment to her studies. She demonstrated a strong work ethic and always went about studies with enthusiasm and energy. On completion of the diploma in June 2009 Grace deservedly achieved 3 Distinctions overall. In September 2009 she began studying for a HND in Business at NRC, Coleraine and was performing to an excellent standard until she left in December to take up employment with Campbell Insurance, Coleraine. RECIPIENT OF THE ELIZABETH THOMPSON CUP 2009 Michelle Moffatt Michelle came to the Institute in September 2007 from Coleraine College having attained eight GCSE's to commence studying for a BTEC National Diploma in Business Studies. While studying for the Business Diploma, Michelle also found the time to take on take on extra study in the form of OCR level two Word processing and Text production examinations, which she achieved with distinction. On completion of the National Diploma in Business in June 2009 Michelle attained three distinctions and is currently studying for a HND in Business Studies at the NRC, Coleraine. RECIPIENT OF THE SPRINGWELL CUP 2009 Natasha Woods Natasha joined the BTEC National Diploma Business course in September 2007 after having successfully achieved 6 A- C grades at Ballymoney High School. Over the 2 years Natasha showed great enthusiasm, determination and focus towards her studies which is why she consistently produced quality work time and time again in the majority of units. This motivation and eagerness to do well in every piece of assignment work enabled her to achieve an excellent overall profile of " DDM". Natasha has a great interest in animals and is also very keen on designing and making cards, some of these ideas were used successfully in assignment work over the 2 years and either one could be developed and used to her advantage in the future. OVERALL EXCELLENCE AWARD IN THE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT Oksana Ogorodnike Oksana was a dedicated student who consistently worked well during the full year of the course. She achieved the Level 2 Diploma in Business and Administration and a wide range of Level 2 qualifications in Workskills and Word/ Text processing. Whilst demonstrating excellence and dedication in the classroom, Oksana also managed to work long hours in her part time job, many of which were night shifts. Although English was not Oksana first language and she never let this be a barrier to her, and overcame ever obstacle that came her way and applied herself enthusiastically to all subjects. She integrated well with other members of the class and was very supportive towards other students, particularly during team work activities. OVERALL EXCELLENCE AWARD IN THE BUSINESS AND ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT Samantha Watterson This is Samantha's 4th year studying on the Magherafelt Campus of the NRC. She completed her Full Time Level 2 & 3 in Business and Administration, and in many of the units she achieved distinctions. In addition to that she achieved a wide range of Text, Word, Document Presentation at advanced level and the MOS expert qualification in Word Processing with Distinction. She has since progressed onto year 1 of the HND in Business Studies. Travel & tourism http:// www. nrc. ac. uk Best Travel & Tourism Student Student Profile: Karen Kerr Karen commenced her Travel and Tourism studies at NRC, Ballymena in September 2007 undertaking the National Diploma Travel and Tourism. Karen successfully completed her course in June 2009 achieving excellent results. During her time at Ballymena, Karen completed valuable industry work experience placements - with Easyjet in year 1 of her programme and with Menzies Aviation, the ground handling agent for Aer Lingus in year 2 - both at Belfast International Airport. Karen received glowing reports and was delighted to be offered part- time and summer employment while she finished her studies. Throughout her National Diploma programme, Karen's interests mainly lay within the airline/ airport sector of the Travel and Tourism industry and in addition to her full- time National Diploma programme, Karen successfully completed four highly commended airline and airport awards which are indeed unique to the Travel and Tourism curriculum at Ballymena campus. Karen was awarded " Certificate in Airline and Airport Customer Care", " Certificate in Airline and Airport Passenger Service Agent Skills", " Certificate in Setting Up A Tourism Business" and " Certificate in Air Cabin Crew Operations". In May 2009, Karen's commitment to her Airline and Airport studies was rewarded with her being presented with " Airline and Airport Prize for Endeavour" at NRC, Ballymena by Head of Faculty, Sam Bell, Head of School, Adrian Mc Neice, Airline Course Manager, Karen McLeod and Deborah Matchett, Head of Public Relations at Belfast International Airport. Karen is now continuing her education at the University of Ulster, Coleraine - studying for Bsc International Travel and Tourism Management and continues to check in N. Ireland's outbound jetsetters at Belfast International Airport!! Well done Karen. Travel & Tourism High Achiever Award Student Profile: Kim Kinnaird Kim completed her BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism in June 2009 gaining straight distinctions ( DDD) on completion of her qualification. Kim achieved the highest overall point score from within Travel and Tourism at Coleraine campus last year. During her 2 years at NRC Kim was also heavily involved in a range of course related projects and events. She raised a substantial amount of money for charity and supported her classes mini- enterprise project by becoming the top sales person in her group. Kim applied to the University of Ulster and successfully gained a place on a BSc ( Hons) Degree in International Travel and Tourism Management which she is currently following. This award aims to recognise her enthusiasm, dedication, commitment and achievement whilst she was a student at NRC. Student Profile: Sarah Gillen and Claire Carnwath Sarah Gillen and Claire Carnwath are just two of the success stories from the BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism at NRC Antrim Campus. They have both secured jobs within the local industry with The Cooperative Travel in Antrim Sarah comments " no two days are the same and I meet new people every day. I really enjoyed my time studying travel and tourism in Antrim I feel that this has played a valuable role in helping me secure a job with The Cooperative Travel. The tutors were extremely helpful and offered me valuable support and guidance through out my time at Antrim Campus. It was a very rewarding and memorable experience'. Claire has had previous experience of working at Belfast International Airport as a Passenger Service Agent. Claire said ' The Cooperative is a great company to work for - you are provided with all the training and guidance necessary to provide the customer with the best holiday and best deals.
